Domestic violence can range from physical to sexual, or psychological in nature. Domestic violence, also called intimate partner violence, happens between people in an intimate relationship. It ranges from emotional to sexual, and/or physical abuse and even threats of abuse. This form of violence is most often directed toward women. However, abuse by an intimate partner can happen to anyone irrespective of age and gender. Domestic violence has also been found in heterosexual and same-sex relationships.
Soaring prices of goods and services have been a global phenomenon in recent months, especially after Russia’s disastrous invasion of Ukraine and the counter response of the Western allies against Russia in the form of economic sanctions. Most of the countries are now facing high rate of inflation triggered by skyrocketing prices of petroleum products. The impact of increased fuel price on the international market has already been felt in Nepali economy too as the inflation rate has already jumped to 7.87 per cent.
Finally, the release date of Nepali movie Nalapani has been fixed. The movie will be released on October 21 on the occasion of Tihar. Director Rimesh Adhikari unveiled the poster of the movie and announced the release date of the film, which received the Special Film Award from the Film Development Board.
Nepal-America International Film Festival, which is held every year in the state of Maryland, USA, is scheduled from June 23- 26, both physically and virtually. The organisers have informed that 38 films from 12 countries, including Nepal and USA will be screened in the four-day festival. The festival will be inaugurated on June 23 at Old Greenbelt Theatre, Greenbelt, Maryland with the screening of the Nepali movie Halkara — The Post Man directed by Bikram Sapkota.
A two-day workshop on ‘Content Planning and Production’ organised by Gorkhapatra Corporation for journalists of its two daily publications concluded here on Friday. Kiran Nepal, editor-in-chief of the Centre for Investigative Journalism, and Prakash Rimal, former editor of The Rising Nepal and former editor-in-chief of The Himalayan Times, spoke to the journalists of The Rising Nepal and Gorkhapatra on the second day of the workshop.
The Embassy of Israel in Nepal in collaboration with Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center-Ichilov Hospital and Janaki Medical College and Teaching Hospital (JMCTH) conducted free health camps in Naktajhi of Dhanusha and Sitapur of Mahottari districts. A team of eight Israeli doctors, who are experts of Gynecology and Women’s Health issues, Anesthesia and ICU, Pediatrics and Ophthalmology together with the medical team of JMCTH, provided free health check-ups for four days.
A teenager has died after falling into the Seti River. Dhullu Adhikari, 17, was crossing the wooden bridge built over the Seti River Thursday morning when she fell into the water. She was on her way to Sangda, Sigas Rural Municipality-7, Baitadi from Girichowk, Aadarsha Rural Municipality-6, Doti to plant crops when she fell and got swept away. According to local Padam Khadayat, her body was found downstream, very far from the bridge.
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved US$ 140 million for the Digital Nepal Acceleration (DNA) Project to expand access to broadband and engage more people in the digital economy. “Countries that embrace a digital transformation can accelerate their transition to green, resilient, and inclusive development,” said Faris Hadad-Zervos, World Bank Country Director for the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. “The World Bank is proud to support Nepal’s goal to promote an inclusive and secure digital economy that will connect people and businesses to information, services, and markets.”
The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and the National Centre for Energy Efficiency agreed to cooperate in energy related activities. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the two institutions for the development and implementation of energy efficiency, energy audit, capacity building and energy related services of the industries, according to a press statement of the CNI.
Construction of Marsyangdi-Kathmandu 220 kV double circuit transmission line has been completed. The project was constructed to bring the electricity generated from the hydropower projects of the Marsyangdi River basin area to the Kathmandu Valley. The 82-kilometer transmission line from Marki Chowk of Anbukhairani Rural Municipality of Tanahun to Matatirtha of Kathmandu has been brought into operation by charging 132 kV line from Thursday, said Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged households and businesses to strictly follow the provision of segregating wastes at the source. “Since June 15, we have requested public to segregate organic from inorganic wastes. We will assist the public only for a month in segregating the wastes and developing the habit. After a month, we will strictly implement the provision,” said Basanta Acharya, information officer at KMC.
Goddess Tripurasundari is known as the governess of the universe. “Tripura” means three worlds (Lokas), while “Sundari” means a beautiful woman. The three “Loks" signify swarga, martya and patal, and also symbolize the body, mind, and consciousness. Thus, Tripurasundari is known as the beautiful lady of the three worlds. Tripurasundari, the consort of Lord Shiva, is another form of goddess Parvati as Durga and Mahakali. She is so powerful that along with Lord Shiva, she creates, protects, and destroys the universe. As we know, Nepal and many other developing countries are facing a fuel crisis. These countries do not produce petroleum and thus rely on imports from fuel-producing countries. Nepal imports fuel from India but has faced troubles in maintaining the imports owing to hike in prices partly because of the Russian-Ukraine war. The effect may seem small, but it is a volatile situation as it will affect the lives of millions of people living in the country.
