By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, June 18: Nepal-America International Film Festival, which is held every year in the state of Maryland, USA, is scheduled from June 23- 26, both physically and virtually.
The organisers have informed that 38 films from 12 countries, including Nepal and USA will be screened in the four-day festival.
The festival will be inaugurated on June 23 at Old Greenbelt Theatre, Greenbelt, Maryland with the screening of the Nepali movie Halkara — The Post Man directed by Bikram Sapkota.
The festival will conclude on June 26 with the screening of director Michael Brown’s documentary Brick Mule and Erik Spink’s short film The Lip Reader.
Apart from physical screening, movies can be viewed on smart phones, iPads, computers, laptops and smart televisions through the Event app during the festival, said
the organiser.
Like previous years, two films will be screened in collaboration with the Global Peace Film Festival, and DMV (D, Maryland, and Virginia) will be screened close to encourage local filmmakers.
A discussion programme will also be organised with the audience and film makers-directors and actors about the screened films, informed
the organiser.
The festival will also feature a virtual dialogue with director Avinash Bikram Shah and actress Surakshya Panta, who recently participated at Cannes Film Festival. The jury will announce the award for the best film.
Anup Subedi from Nepal, Rebecca Bustamante from USA, Nina Streich, Bhavani Rao, Deborah Jones, Farid Bozorgmehrand, Portia Cobbare are in the jury committee.
Nepal American Film Society, a non-profit organisation, has been organising this film festival since 2017.
