By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, June 18: A two-day workshop on ‘Content Planning and Production’ organised by Gorkhapatra Corporation for journalists of its two daily publications concluded here on Friday.

Kiran Nepal, editor-in-chief of the Centre for Investigative Journalism, and Prakash Rimal, former editor of The Rising Nepal and former editor-in-chief of The Himalayan Times, spoke to the journalists of The Rising Nepal and Gorkhapatra on the second day of the workshop.

Nepal talked about investigative reporting and stressed the need for journalists to research and collect evidences for their stories. Rimal shared his experiences of working at The Rising Nepal and said that he found state-owned media freer and more independent than private, corporate media.

The day also included a discussion session where the journalists working in the two daily newspapers raised their queries and concerns in front of the Corporation management. General Manager Lal Bahadur Airi and Executive Chairman Bishnu Prasad Subedi both took them positively and promised to address them in collaboration with the staff.

Furthermore, General Manager Airi urged the reporters to introspect and asked them to evaluate their work. He also asked the papers’ editorial team to produce critical stories on social and human-interest issues and informed everyone present of the management’s efforts to strengthen the publications.

Chairman Subedi emphasised the need for the Corporation and its journalists to keep pace with technology to stay relevant in the market.
