Kathmandu, May 5 : Mithila Hospitality has announced a major hospitality project in Janakpur, marking a significant expansion in Nepal’s tourism infrastructure.
The company, led by former Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and entrepreneur Rameshwar Shah, is set to build a luxury five-star hotel with an investment of approximately Rs. 2 billion.
Shah who has already made a strong presence in Nepal’s hospitality sector by operating the Royal Tulip Resort in Chitwan, is expanding his investment footprint in Janakpur, the city of Mithila.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on Monday in a formal ceremony attended by Chief Minister of Madhes Province Krishna Prasad Yadav, minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism Kanish Patel, Member of Parliament Manish Jha, NRNA founding president Dr. Upendra Mahato, and other local representatives and business leaders, according to Mithila Hospitality.
He made the announcement of new project just eight months after successful launch of the Royal Tulip Resort in Chitwan, reflecting his business vision and strong commitment to large-scale investment in Nepal’s tourism industry. The project will be developed over approximately 2.5 bighas of land, with a total built-up area of around 120,000 square feet.
The hotel is expected to feature 124 rooms, including eight luxury suites, and accommodate up to 372 guests.
The construction is scheduled for completion within three years, with operations expected to begin by May 2028.
Janakpur is a well-known destination for both domestic and international tourists. The city is rich in art, culture, and religious significance.
Despite being an important religious and tourist hub, Janakpur has long lacked international-standard accommodation facilities.
The project is expected to make a significant economic contribution.
Once operational, it will directly create employment for around 150 people, while also generating indirect employment and boosting local economic activities.
The hotel will primarily target general visitors, religious tourists visiting Janaki Temple and the Ramayana Circuit, wedding events, and business conferences.
The investment partners include Shah, former banker Gyanendra Prasad Dhungana, businessman Kaji Lama, Sudip Kumar Chaudhary, and Udayakant Jha.
