By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Myagdi, Apr. 27: A climber who was seriously injured after falling about 400 metres while climbing Dhaulagiri was successfully rescued two days later.
The injured climber, Mingma Tenji Sherpa, 21, from Sankhuwasabha District, had slipped near the summit and fallen approximately 400 metres on Friday morning while descending after summiting the 8,167-metre peak, located in Mudi of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4.
According to Phuru Tenji Sherpa of 14 Summit Expedition, who was involved in the rescue, the climber was brought safely to base camp on Saturday night and then airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment on Sunday.
“He slipped and fell near the summit while returning from the climb. After contacting base camp, rescuers were mobilised from the upper camp, and we brought him down to base camp on Saturday night. He was found unconscious, but his condition is gradually improving,” he said.
According to the Department of Tourism, a total of 28 climbers, including 12 women in three teams, had obtained permits to climb Dhaulagiri during the current spring season. Most of those permitted have already completed their ascent.
The department reported that a total royalty of Rs. 12.56 million has been collected from the expedition.
