By Leelaraj Khadka,Birtamod, Apr. 5: The Chandragadhi Women’s Gold Cup, the highest prize-money women’s football tournament in Nepal, is set to take place in Chandragadhi, Jhapa. A similar tournament was previously held at Dudhe Stadium in Jhapa. This year, the competition will be held at Mechi Stadium in Bhadrapur from April 18 to 27.
The organisers, Chandragadhi Youth Club, announced details of the tournament at a press conference. According to club president Rohit Subba, the winners will receive a record prize of Rs 1.1 million, the highest in the history of women’s football in Nepal.
The runners-up will be awarded Rs 500,000 in cash. The organisers stated that the tournament’s main sponsor is Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital, Bhadrapur, while the runners-up prize will be sponsored by Sajilo Net.
The player of the match will receive Rs 11,000 in cash along with a trophy. The best player of the tournament will be awarded Rs 50,000, while the best players in individual categories will each receive Rs 25,000.
The tournament will feature one team from the host club. In addition, Nepal’s three departmental teams, Tribhuvan Army FC, Nepal APF FC, and Nepal Police Club, will participate, alongside women’s teams from Church Boys United and Sankata Football Club.
International participation will include India’s Rani Laxmibai Sports Academy and Bhutan’s Thimphu City FC, with two more teams from other Asian countries also expected to compete, Subba added.
Preparations for the tournament are under way, with construction and upgrades at Mechi Stadium already in progress.
