New parliament building ready for holding sessions

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 21: Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal, along with several other ministers, conducted an on-site inspection of the under-construction Federal Parliament building within the Singha Durbar complex.

The inspection team consisting Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma, Health and Population Minister Dr. Sudha Gautam, and Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Shraddha Shrestha reviewed various structures of the new building and gathered relevant information. 

The ministers observed the newly constructed multipurpose hall prepared for parliamentary sessions, as well as the ongoing construction of the House of Representatives and National Assembly halls.

During the visit, Home Minister Aryal confirmed that the meeting hall is fully prepared for the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members of the House of Representatives. He said that, if necessary, the hall could also accommodate a full 

parliamentary session. 

“The new building is ready not only for swearing-in ceremonies but also for holding full sessions. Necessary infrastructure has been put in place for joint meetings of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. Office space for the Speaker and arrangements for the Procedure Committee have also been completed,” he said.

Commenting on the interior arrangements, Minister Aryal said that the seating plan and furniture management are satisfactory, and installation of microphones and screens is progressing rapidly. While some arrangements remain temporary, the quality of furniture and technology is high, and work is proceeding at a good pace.

According to the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, the new parliament building is now in its final stages. Spanning more than 156 ropani, the building will host all federal parliamentary activities once completed. Pramendra Krishna Shrestha, head of the Tundi-Sec JV project responsible for construction, stated that the campus will comprise twelve structures, including the Federal Parliament building, House of Representatives and National Assembly halls, VIP chambers, parliamentary party offices, committee buildings, and other administrative offices.

As part of the visit, the ministers also took part in tree planting within the new Federal Parliament complex. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Anil Kumar Sinha, Minister for Forests and Environment Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma, Health and Population Minister Dr. Sudha Gautam, and Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Shraddha Shrestha planted Rudraksha, Camphor, Juniper, and Samika saplings in the premises.
