Gandaki, Jan 26: More than 2,000 local people have opted for beekeeping in the Pokhara Metropolitan City area, making it a lucrative business.
Chief of the Agricultural Development Section in Pokhara Metropolitan City, Manahar Kadariya, said that people's attraction to the beekeeping business is on the rise and there is good market for the locally produced honey.
The people in the rural areas of the city, mostly in wards no. 16, 18, 20, 23, 26, 28, 30 and 33, are engaged in beekeeping and produce almost 90 tonnes of honey in a year, Kadariya added.
"Demand for honey is rising in the market. Beekeeping could become a good option for income generation given the high potential for honey production in this area," he stated.
Likewise, he encouraged the farmers stating that beekeeping contributes to other farming as well.
Meanwhile, the metropolitan city has offered different technical and vocational training programmes targeting the beekeepers.(RSS)
