Volleyball tournament to begin in Pokhara from tomorrow

By Santosh Subedi, Kaski, Jan 22: A major national volleyball event is all set to begin in Pokhara from Friday, tomorrow.

Tiger group of Pokhara has been organizing the event for the last five years and it is the sixth edition of the Ncell Tiger Cup National and International Invitation Club Championship Volleyball Competition 2082.

The match will conclude on January 31.

The tournament will be held at the volleyball training centre of Pokhara Stadium, with five teams competing under women’s category and  and six teams under men’s category.

According to the official match schedule, five teams encompassing the Maldives national volleyball team will feature in the men’s category while a women’s volleyball team from Thailand will contest under women category.

There will be three matches each under both the categories, men’s and women’s, in the inaugural of the tournament on Friday.

Tip Top New Diamond Sports club will confront Tribhuvan Army Club at 9 am in the women’s category.

 Tribhuvan Army Club will contest against the Maldives in men’s category, while the official inauguration match after 2 pm will show the host Gandaki Province Volleyball Association facing off Nepal APF Club, based on the expression of tournament secretary DB Nepali stated.

The tournament will be held under a round-robin league system.

Coordinator Kumar Gurung said, the top ranked teams will compete in playoff matches to decide the champion, runner-up and third-placed teams.

The victorious team will get Rs. 666,666 while the runner-up will take home Rs.366,666 and the third-placed team Rs. 266,666.

Similarly, the best player and category-wise outstanding players will be honoured with cash prizes, trophies, medals and certificates.
