Taplejung, Jan 8: The base camp area of Nepal's second-highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, located in Taplejung, has now become deserted with the end of the main tourist season.

Popular locations such as Khambachen, Lhonak, and Pangpema in the northern base camp, as well as the southern base camp areas including Cheram and Ramjer, are currently devoid of visitors.

During the trekking season, these areas are typically crowded with both domestic and foreign tourists.

According to tourism entrepreneurs, the base camp has fallen silent after the arrival of tourists stopped with the end of the tourist season.

Tourism entrepreneur Tenzing Serap Sherpa stated that after the tourist season ended, businessmen who had been running the hotel business returned to their lower settlements as the mountain region goes silent.

Meanwhile, according to statistics from the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Office, the number of foreign tourists visiting the area has been increasing in recent years.

Tourism Assistant Tashi Tenzing Sherpa at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council said that 950 foreign tourists visited the Kanchenjunga region during the first trekking season of this year.

According to him, tourists have been coming here sporadically even after November this year.

He said that the number of domestic tourists is increasing alongside foreign tourists visiting the area.

According to him, 877 foreign tourists visited Kanchenjunga in the first trekking season of last year. (Translated from RSS Nepali)
