Kathmandu, Jan 3: The Ministry of Health and Population has urged the general public not to go out of the house for non-essential works as the biting cold could cause adverse impacts on public health.

Ministry's Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki cautioned people against going out of their houses as there could be a risk of cough and cold, fever, asthma and hypothermia due to the severe cold.

Dr Budhathoki said that the cold wave, thick fog and snowfall could harm public health and the patients of cold, fever, asthma and hypothermia could increase. He added that children, pregnant women, senior citizens and patients of chronic diseases are more vulnerable to cold.

He has asked the people to consult with the health professionals in the nearest health institution in case of any cold-related issues and call the Hello Health Call Center at 1115.

Likewise, the rising air pollution in the winter in the recent years has also severely impacted heart, lungs, brain and other parts of the body, while increasing vulnerabilities to several non-communicable diseases including asthma, cancer and others.

Dr Budhathoki has suggested the people for taking nutritious and balanced diet, wearing warm clothes and taking fresh fruits and vegetables including orange, lemon and Amala as well as paying more attention to personal and community hygiene. (RSS)
