By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 2:  Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said the party will not split if it moves forward in line with its statute.

He urged party workers not to apprehend about a possible split of the party.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s central office at Sanepa on Friday, he made an appeal.

He dismissed doubts raised about unity within the party as he said that lacked any basis and stressed that the party would go ahead in a stronger and more consolidated manner.

He stated ‘When the party carries out its activities in accordance with the statue, it does not split but instead remains united. If anyone still has doubts about unity, they need not consider such doubts.’ Similarly, General Secretary Sharma added, “Many colleagues in the party have presented concerns. I want to reassure everyone.

General Secretary Sharma expressed that, in view of the current national situation, the party needed to move ahead by determining leadership, policy, and vision through the general convention. He added that the party had fixed the date of the general convention on that basis but could not hold it.

He asserted the Executive Committee meeting would discuss whether the party should make a national commitment before the election or opt for a change in leadership through a special general convention.

As the schedule for the regular general convention failed to progress, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma have moved forward with the process for a special general convention. This issue has intensified disputes within the party.
