By TRN Online, Kathmandu, January 2: Journalist Bhoj Raj Thapa has been felicitated.

Thapa was honoured on the occasion of 13th National Dress- Day and International Topi Day, for his contribution on issues of social concern and youth -oriented journalism.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, presented the honour to journalist Thapa at a special programme organized by the National Heritage Conservation Foundation Nepal on Thursday. 

Guided by a spirit of philanthropy, journalist Thapa has carried out social support activities in different parts of the country. By bringing to light the problems of the poor, the affected, and marginalised communities, he has played a significant role in ensuring access to support and in amplifying voices demanding justice. His initiatives have directly supported many citizens, while the suffering of several voiceless communities has reached the state and the concerned authorities.

Using social journalism as a medium, Thapa has consistently raised issues related to natural disasters, economic hardship, health challenges, and social injustice. By actively participating in support campaigns, he has gone beyond news reporting and has devoted himself to humanitarian service.

The organisers said that they presented the honour in appreciation of his continuous writing on social issues and his contribution to youth-focused journalism.

The organising institution described Thapa’s journalism as exemplary, noting that it has powerfully highlighted the voices of common citizens, social justice, cultural preservation, and contemporary issues.

Only a few days earlier, at the 9th National Rapti Music Award ceremony organised by Rapti Samaj Kathmandu,  Thapa got the honour with the Rapti Journalism Award–2082. 

The National Heritage Conservation Foundation Nepal launched the National Dress Day and International Topi Day campaign in 2070 BS with the aim of identifying and promoting Nepal’s national formal dress. The campaign has completed 13 years this year.

At a programme held in the afternoon of January first at the auditorium of the Nepal Tourism Board, organisers felicitated and honoured individuals from various fields for their contributions. Founder and Chairperson Rajananda Mandabya chaired the programme.

The event also honoured senior engineer Shankarnath Rimal, the redesign architect of the national flag; JCI Nepal 2026 President Jeevan Karki; Miss Nepal 2025 winner Luna Luintel; Topi campaigner Shankar Banjade; lyricist Lokraj Adhikari; Taekwondo referee Dipendra Dhakal; writer Archana Jha; spiritual preacher Sanjelji Maharaj; Dipkishor Bhattarai; Kabindra Neupane (Baman), among others, in various categories.

According to the organizers, the campaign, which continues to unite Nepalis around the world through traditional dress, the topi, and cultural identity, has further strengthened Nepali originality and national identity.
