Lalitpur, Jan 1: Thirty percent out of the prisoners, who escaped from Nakhkhu Prison in Lalitpur during the Gen Z movement on September 9, are still out of contact.
One thousand two hundred and eighty prisoners convicted in various cases had escaped after the jail break incident at Nakhkhu Prison.
According to prison administration, so far 70 percent of them have, voluntarily or through coordination with security agencies, returned to prison, while the remaining 30 percent are still at large.
Chief of Nakhkhu Prison, Dirgharaj Upadhyay, said the search for escaped prisoners is ongoing. "Search for capturing the escaped prisoners is taking place not only within Nepal but also outside the country. According to the law, we are active in the campaign to return all escaped prisoners to prison."
It was previously announced that prisoners who did not return to prison by 20th Ashoj (October 6) as per the deadline set by the Department of Prisons would be punished in accordance with the Prison Act, 2079 and other prevailing laws.
The prison administration has requested the families of prisoners, security agencies, local authorities, media, relevant government offices, and all concerned parties to assist in the search and capture of escaped prisoners.(RSS)
