By Gobinda Sharma, Banke, Dec 31: The construction of a four-lane bridge over the Pedari canal in Khajura Bazaar, Khajura Rural Municipality-3, Banke, along the Nepalgunj-Gulariya road section is progressing at a rapid pace.

Lila Bahadur Bhandari, head of the Planning Office of the Postal Highway Directorate in Nepalgunj, said that construction work is progressing rapidly so that vehicles can operate from the new bridge within a month.

Planning Chief Bhandari said, "The plight of locals of Khajura will end soon. The construction company has moved ahead with the work to complete it ahead of schedule."

The contract with Narayanam Construction Services was awarded for Rs. 89.6 million, including VAT. It is expected that the work will be completed before the scheduled time, May 1, 2026.

Although Khajura has a four-lane road, traffic is often affected during the rainy season. That is because water from the drain flows over the road even during light rains owing to the narrow and dilapidated bridge that was built years ago.

The new bridge to be constructed is 22 meters wide and 34.4 meters long. Similarly, a 200-meter approach road will also be constructed on both sides of the bridge.

Former Minister Ratna Khatri, also a local of Khajura, said that the construction of the bridge has started after repeated efforts of locals.

Locals are happy with the work of the construction company.

The Postal Highway Directorate Planning Office has been conducting regular monitoring to obtain information about the status of the bridge construction work.
