Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), Dec 17: Earthquake-resistant and well-equipped buildings have been constructed at two schools with the financial assistance of the Government of Japan.
The school buildings have been constructed under the Education Project implemented in collaboration with the Plan International Nepal and ASMAN Nepal.
The Project Office has stated that a school building was constructed at Mudiva Basic School in Bideha Municipality-5 at a cost of Rs 9.4 million and another building has been constructed at Shankar Secondary School in Janaknandini Rural Municipality-1 at a cost of Rs 12.5 million.
The buildings of both schools are disability-friendly, each with two floors, four classrooms, five toilets, and having drinking water tanks and taps, said Ravi Shankar Pandit, Plan Nepal's Eastern Regional Chief.
He informed that since the school buildings were dilapidated and there were difficulties in the children's education, a well-equipped building was constructed and handed over to the schools.
The newly-constructed school buildings were inspected by a team of heads and representatives of government and non-governmental organisations, led by Rajanandan Mandal, head of the District Coordination Committee of Dhanusha, with the participation of Deputy Head Sangita Thakur.
After the inspection, a meeting of Plan International's District Project Advisory Committee was held. In the meeting, Pandit, the regional head of Plan International Nepal, Eastern region, and Sanjay Paswan from ASMAN Nepal, provided information about the work and projects regarding children, gender equality, and physical infrastructure carried out by these two organisations, as well as their achievements.
The District Coordination Committee Head, Mandal, expressed the view that non-governmental organisations should effectively promote educational, health, sanitation, and awareness programmes in coordination with the municipality.
Plan International Nepal has been working in Nepal in the fields of social development and awareness since 1978. It is currently working in 13 districts, including four districts in the Madhesh Province, through its partner organisations. (RSS)
