By Lumbini Bureau, Nepalgunj, Tansen, Ghorahi, Nov. 24: A significant number of new voters are being added in various districts of Lumbini Province. The registration drive, launched for the preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, 2026, which ran from September 27 to November 21 has seen particularly high participation from young people.
16,811 in Banke
In Banke district, 16,811 new voters have registered this year. According to Tek Bahadur Shahi, the head of the District Election Office, of the 11,711 people who came to register in person, 5,837 were male and 5,874 were female.
Registration based on the national identity card is still ongoing for 5,100 individuals, whose details are being processed separately.
Shahi mentioned that the participation of young people in the new voter registration has been substantial, with the highest number of registrations coming from the age group between 18 and 25 years. Although the registration period was extended, the office has indicated that there may still be some names missing.
In 2022, there were 333,934 registered voters in Banke district. This year, the majority of new voters have come from Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City and Kohalpur Municipality.
Nearly 7,000 in Palpa
In Palpa district, 6,887 people have registered to vote. District Election Officer Binod Ghimire said that 4,325 of these registrations were made based on the national identity card.
Among the 1,827 people who registered in person, 1,117 were male and 810 were female.
Likewise, 635 people who moved from other districts to Palpa have registered, with 259 men and 376 women. A total of 193 individuals from outside the district, including 122 women and 71 men, have also registered as voters in Palpa. The details of these registrations are now in the process of review and error correction.
Chief of the District Election Office, Mahesh Sharma said that the majority of new registrants are young people. It has been decided to maintain the existing 118 polling stations for the upcoming election, although some additional stations may be added based on the number of voters and requirements.
5,000 in Dang
In Dang district, 5,282 new voters have registered for the upcoming HoR election. According to Gehendra Kunwar, Information Officer at the Lumbini Province Election Office in Dang, of the newly registered voters, 2,917 were male and 2,365 were female. The majority of the new registrants are from the youth demographic.
Similarly, 422 men and 201 women from other districts have registered to vote in Dang. During this period, 1,035 voters have corrected errors in their registration details, while 1,040 voters have applied for address changes.
