Patan (Lalitpur), Nov 4: A General Secretary and a Joint Secretary of the Nepali Congress have presented two separate proposals for general convention.

"The time schedule for the general convention eluded consensus. Common understanding could not be made on the approaches to the general convention. General Secretary Gagan Thapa broached the general convention from December 31, 2025 to January 1, 2026. Similarly, Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav from May 10, 2026 to May 13, 2026. However, efforts are on to forge consensus on it," said Badri Pande, Joint General Secretary.

He added that if the general convention is held on December 31, intense preparation is imperative.

As per the proposal forwarded by General Secretary Thapa, the party needs holding ward convention on December 13, 2025, constituency convention on December 20-21 and the central general convention on December 31, 2025 to January 1, 2026.

Similarly, the schedule presented by Joint General Secretary Yadav proposes ward convention on March 15, palika convention on March 19, province constituency convention on March 26, HoR constituency on April 3, district convention on April 13, province convention on April 28 and finally the 15th central general convention from May 10 to May 13, 2026.

Pande put forth his view that regular general convention is necessary also for addressing the demand of those who are for special general convention.

Another Joint General Secretary Kishor Singh Rathaur said it is essential to make NC unified as the country is facing a difficult time. He believed that the central committee meeting would endorse the schedule for the central convention to be held after the March 5 election to the House of Representatives.

Central member Nainsingh Mahar said the party leadership requires addressing diverse opinions and even win trust of other political parties at such adverse condition. As per party statute, the special convention is also legitimate, so adopting democratic system in the party is imperative, he stressed. (RSS)
