Second Nepalgunj National Swimming Championship begins

Nepalgunj, Oct 31: The Second Nepalgunj National Swimming Championship 2025 has kicked off in Nepalgunj today.     

The competition, organised by the Nepalgunj Swimming Club, was inaugurated by Lumbini Province's Minister for Youth and Sports, Santosh Kumar Pandey.     

On the occasion, he said that the provincial government is committed to the development of the sports sector as there is immense potential in the sports field in Lumbini Province.     

"The provincial government will bear 25 per cent of the expenses for this swimming championship" he said.     

In the 50-metre under-eight backstroke event of the opening game, Rajveen Jirel of Sagarmatha Swimming Club, Lalitpur came first, Yubhan Shrestha of Adarsha Secondary School, Nepalgunj came second, and Bishnu Parajuli of Koshi Province came third.     

The competition features more than 150 players from across the country in the under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 17 age groups, as well as the open age group.     

Players in the under-eight age group will compete in 25 metres events, while players in the under-ten age group will compete in events of 50 metres. Similarly, players in the under-12 and under-14 age groups will compete in various events at distances of 50 and 100 metres.     

In the open age group, competitions will take place under various events in the 200 and 400 metres.     

Altogether 56 different events will be organized in the competition. This competition will be held for two days.(RSS)
