Kathmandu, Oct 27: Prime Minister Sushila Karki felicitated social worker Anjali Maskey in recognition of her philanthropic activities. Prime Minister Karki invited Maskey to her official residence in Baluwatar and honoured her by donning a shawl.

During a brief conversation, Prime Minister Karki said she had always desired to meet Maskey once, upon hearing her social work carried out selflessly for a long time. "I had a desire to meet you once, and today I fulfilled it," she said.

The Prime Minister also said she felt honored herself with this opportunity to recognize her inspiring deeds.

Maskey, a resident of Tahachal, Kathmandu, is well-known for applying tika to brothers who do not have sisters and who are unable to meet them on the day of Bhai Tika, as part of the Tihar festival. She has been doing it voluntarily, moistly at the historical Kasthamandap, for the past 27 years.

She had also contributed to society by arranging free food for the homeless and needy patients and their relatives at Bir Hospital. Similarly, she has also been managing the collective fast at Kasthamandap.

"I do not do these works with any expectations from anyone and I do whatever I can at my own expense," said 82-year-old Maskey, according to Prime Minister's Press Coordinator Ram Bahadur Rawal.

Maskey also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Karki for standing up to take charge of the state of affairs of the country in difficult circumstances.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, Minister for Health and Population Sudha Gautam, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Ajay Bhadra Khanal, and Chief Personal Secretary to the Prime Minister Adarsh Kumar Shrestha were also present at the event. (RSS)
