Veteran critic Dr Tripathi honored with the Govinda Bhatta Memorial Award

Kathmandu, Oct 11: This year's Sahitya Sandhya–Govinda Bhatta Memorial Award has been conferred upon senior litterateur and esteemed critic Prof Dr Basudev Tripathi.

The organization Sahitya Sandhya, which has been active in literary pursuits since 1982, presented him with a prize of Rs 50,000 during a ceremony held today.     

The revolving fund for the award, in honour of the Marxist thinker Bhatta, was set up by former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Ganga Prasad Upreti, and this award was bestowed for the inaugural time.     

Prof Jagat Prasad Upadhyay, who leads the award recommendation committee, noted that Dr Tripathi is a distinguished critic of Nepali literature and elaborated on the themes of his research-focused critiques.     

Emphasizing on Bhatta's character, literary figure Hemnath Paudel remarked that Bhatta possessed a unique identity in the realms of criticism and philosophy.     

Bhatta was born on 2nd Shrawan 1994 BS and passed away on 25th Ashoj 2068 BS.(RSS)
