By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 30: In the past 24 hours, more than 111,000 people have departed from the Kathmandu Valley to celebrate Bada Dashain, according to traffic authorities on Monday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Naresh Raj Subedi, said that the statistics cover the period from Sunday morning to Monday morning. Data for the Monday evening will be available only Tuesday as it is complicated to collect all border points data at a time, he said.
According to the data provided by the Traffic Police Office, from Ghatasthapana (September 22) until Monday morning, 460,977 passengers travelled outside the valley using 83,087 vehicles. During the same period, 252,755 passengers entered the valley via 61,781 vehicles.
From Ghatasthapana until September 27, a total of 267,446 passengers left the valley in 45,493 vehicles. Meanwhile, the number of arrivals was nearly equal, with 156,786 passengers entering in 41,594 vehicles, the Traffic Police reported.
With the Dashain festivities underway, there has been a noticeable increase in outbound traffic from the valley. Between 6:00 am on September 27 and 6:00 am on September 28, 61,822 passengers entered the valley in 13,929 vehicles, while 111,639 passengers departed via 18,613 vehicles.
Similarly, from 6:00 am on September 28 to 6:00 am September 29, 61,822 passengers entered the valley by 13,929 vehicles, while 111,639 passengers left in 18,613 vehicles.
