Nepali swimmer Atharva sets two national records

Kathmandu, Sept 29: Nepali swimmer Atharva Singh set two new national records today at the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship.     

In the championship held in Ahmedabad, India, Atharva completed the men's 1500-meter freestyle in 17 minutes 43.57 seconds, breaking the 10-year-old record of 18 minutes 45.62 seconds set by Shirish Gurung.     

In the same event, Nepal's Kalkin Shrestha also surpassed Shirish's record. Kalkin completed the distance in 18 minutes 11.11 seconds, according to chief swimming coach Shankar Karki.     

Similarly, Atharva set another record in the 400-meter individual medley, breaking the five minutes 4.70 seconds record established by Shirish in 2016.(RSS)
