Saplings planting, philatelic exhibition held to mark Civil Service Day

Kathmandu, Sept 5: The Department of Forests and Soil Conservation has planted tree sapling at Horticulture Centre, Kirtipur, on the occasion of 22nd Civil Service Day.     

At a programme organised here today, saplings of different types of plants and fruits were planted. Inaugurating the sapling plantation, Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Raj Kumar Shrestha, shared that sapling plantation is important to control soil erosion and helps maintain greenery of the area.     

Similarly, officiating secretary of the Ministry of Forests, Shiva Kumar Wagle, said the Department has been planting saplings as the party of main ceremony of the Day.     

Likewise, Director General of the Department, Dhirendra Kumar Pradhan, stressed the need of protecting forests to control soil erosion and environment conservation.     

Chief of the Horticulture Centre Dinesh Sapkota stated that the Centre collected Rs 10.2 million in revenue last year by selling different types of saplings.     

Secretary of the Home Ministry, Gokarna Mani Duwadee, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Govinda Prasad Sharma, Labour Secretary Krishna Hari Puskar, joint-secretaries of different ministries, civil servants, among others were present on the occasion.     

Nepal has started observing Civil Service Day since 2061 BS in commemoration of the day of promulgation of the first Civil Service Act on Bhadra 22, 2013 BS.     

Meanwhile, Department of Postal Services has organised a week-long Civil Service Day Philatelic Exhibition on the occasion of Civil Service Day-2082 from today. Nepal Philatelic Society is the co-organiser of the expo.     

On the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Radhika Aryal, mentioned that all employees should pay attention on clean image to maintain pride of the civil service as it is a trustworthy and important body to run government.     

She opined that the exposing the essence and context of the civil service through postage stamps has worked as a positive publicity tool.     

Director General of the Department, Manamaya Pangeni Bhattarai underlined that such philatelic expo would inspire the coming generation about the importance of civil service and its history. (RSS)
