Lamjung, Sept. 3: Remote villages of Lamjung district now have access to high-speed 4G internet and mobile services following Nepal Telecom’s network expansion.
The Nepal Telecom Authority carried out the expansion work under the special initiative of the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.
The GSM-based 4G service has been extended to the villages, including Sanjapu, Udipur Dam Site, Manange Chautara, Bhirpastun and Okhri.
Despite the challenges posed by the monsoon, Nepal Telecom has accelerated infrastructure upgrades across all eight local levels of the district, said Rammani Lataula, Chief of the Telecom Office of Lamjung.
Preparations are also underway to launch 4G service in Maling of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality, and Ghanpokhara and Siurung of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality.
Locals say this move of the Telecom fulfils the slogan “Communication Rights, Access to All”. After years of complaints over poor connectivity, the Telecom finally expanded the service.
Officials expect the service to boost education, telemedicine, emergency communication, agriculture and small businesses in the region.
“This initiative has opened the door for inclusive, ICT-based development in remote Lamjung,” said Dhananjaya Dawadi, Secretary of the CPN-UML Gandaki Province Committee.
Nepal Telecom has said it plans to further expand 4G services in other locations soon.
