Kathmandu, Aug 25: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has wished best wishes to all Nepali sisters on the occasion of 'Dar Khane Din' , the traditional day of feasting before the Teej festival.
Taking to his social media account today, PM Oli wished, "May this day strengthen the family bonds between daughters and their natal homes. May our lives be enriched by fragrance of our culture."
Describing the significance of the Day, Oli noted that the 'Dar Khane Din' is rooted in the joint family traditions of oriental society.
He also highlighted the importance of the celebration to deepen the family ties between the married daughters and their natal homes.
Reflecting on the past, the septuagenarian leader mentioned that the society back then did not have modern amenities unlike these days. "People had to walk from one village to another to bring married daughters or sisters home for Teej. Neither were there bridges to rivers crossing or nor there were means of communication. It was customary to go to married sisters' home and bring them to their natal homes for Teej celebration."
The PM further noted that the traditional songs sung during Teej festival reflected the hardships of that time.
The Head of the Government, acknowledging the changing dynamics of the family in the recent time, further wrote, "Changes in the social structures have led women to self-reliance and empowerment. That is why, there have been changes in how 'Dar Khane Din' is celebrated. Still, the day offers as an opportunity for three generations to come together under the same roof and share a sense of closeness.
Traditionally, Dar-a special feast-is hosted by the parental family for married women the day before the Teej. The feast is considered preparation for the fasting observed during the Teej.(RSS)
