RSS General Manager Rai assumes office, vows fairness

Kathmandu, Aug 18: The newly elected General Manager of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Sandip Rai, has assumed the office at RSS Central Office, Bhadrakali, on Monday.     

Executive Chairman Dharmendra Jha, Deputy General Managers and Department Chiefs welcomed Rai at the office.     

Also in line to receive the new GM were office employees and representatives of various associations, unions and FNJ RSS chapter.     

Rai was appointed RSS GM with the Cabinet meeting decision made on August 11. He was able to secure the post after getting recommended through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which had sought applications for open competition and conducted interviews before recommending him from the Cabinet meeting.     

While welcoming the new GM, Chairman Jha expressed happiness over RSS's success in getting a young and energetic person as a new GM. He shared that the RSS forwards its activities with utmost coordination and collaboration for the broader welfare.     

RSS can be elevated to the status of an international news agency with competent and honest leadership like GM Rai.     

On the occasion, the newly appointed GM Rai vowed transparency and fairness in his term. He would work actively for making RSS a dynamic and credible news agency by utilising the available resources and accelerating digitisation.     

"I try my best to digitalise the manual bulletins of RSS, which was established in 2018BS. Despite having a modern building, RSS needs to be equipped with a better website and Apps in line with the Nepal government's concept of Digital Nepal Framework."     

Moreover, the number of people accessing RSS news could be increased once it is linked to the Nagarik Apps. Rai further said he would endeavour to make RSS visible in South Asia, Europe and America, where there are a lot of Nepali-speaking people.     

He further committed that the amended RSS Regulation stuck at the Ministry for long would be introduced soon after getting it endorsed by the Ministry. Problems relating to temporary and contract-based employees would also be managed after adequate discussion, Rai added.     

On the occasion, administrative chief Shital Mahato said RSS would be made further effective with all sides' coordination and cooperation.     


Rai's Brief Profile     

General Manager Rai was born in Phalelung rural municipality-3 of Panchthar district on Asar 24, 2042BS.     

An MA in Mass Communications and Journalism from Purvanchal University, Rai has been actively involved in journalism and human rights for a long.     

Also, the central member of the Press Chautari Nepal, close to CPN UML, Rai has been involved in journalism for two decades. He worked in various media- print, radio and online- run from Kathmandu and mofussil.     

He also worked as a press coordinator to the Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport and Communications and Information Technology, Basanta Kumar Nembang.     

GM Rai has also earned a BEd from Tribhuvan University. Keenly interested in study, research and literature, he has presented papers in international universities as well. He is trained by the acclaimed institutions.
