By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug 3: Press Center Nepal (PCN), an organization of working journalist in Nepal, has demanded amendment to the media council bill presently under discussion in the education, health and information technology committee of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Some of the
provisions in the bill which is under discussion in the Committee of the HoR after
being endorsed by the National Assembly are in opposition to press freedom,
argued the PCN, issuing a press release today.
In its 7-point objection, the PCN has specified places where the bill needs to be amended so that it upholds the constitutional guarantee of press freedom, including appointment of office bearers of the council, jurisdiction, provision of chairman and budget and submission of annual work report of the council.
