Jhapa, Aug 1: As many as 17 students and driver were injured in a road accident after a school van they were in somersaulted at Khuttidangi of Mechinagar Municipality-9 in the district.
According to Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Information Officer at the District Police Office, the van (Me 1 Ja 3107) belonging to the Parijat Public School, was ferrying students towards school.
After the vehicle overturned, it fell into a ditch. Police reported that the injured include six-year-old Sabiska Rai, four-year-old Samira Bishunkhe, 10-year-old Aditya Rai, 11-year-old Sadiksha Kafle, 11-year-old Sohit Rajbanshi, 11-year-old Ayan Subba, 11-year-old Anurag Tamang, 12-year-old Krishpa Rai, 12-year-old Sanyog Bishunkhe, 12-year-old Aayani BK, 11-year-old Pranis Rai, nine-year-old Samarpan Rai, six-year-old Susita Kisan, six-year-old Tansona Limbu, and nine-year-old Angu Magar.
Also injured in the incident were 24-year old teacher Priti Shiva, and 45-year old driver Ganesh Shrestha were injured in the accident. All the injured were rushed to MechiAmda Hospital, however, most of the injured were referred to B&C Teaching Hospital in Birtamod for further treatment, police said.
Immediately after the incident, a police team led by Police Inspector Pandav Rajbanshi from Dhulabari Area Police Office reached the incident site. The injured students are, however, out of danger.(RSS)
