Kathmandu, July 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the subordinates to complete development projects in time.

The trend of over-spending in and delaying the construction works and afflicting people must end, he stressed.

In his address to the 54th meeting of the national development problems resolution committee held in Singh Durbar on Friday, PM Oli directed the ministers, secretaries and project chiefs to identify the problems behind the slow pace of development projects and make correction accordingly.

The Head of the Government expressed worry why the contracting for remaining tasks under the Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion was not made despite completion of tunnel. Such delayed pace of development must not persist, he reminded.

Once these problems continue, we can not ensure result and amount in time, according to him.

Moreover, the PM reminded, "We've a policy to provide grant to farmers on chemical fertilizers, but there is an acute shortage of fertilizers. Let's stop afflicting people." He further questioned why we could not reduce grants while increasing supply.

PM Oli said, "We need to intensify the development pace. The project begun with the estimated cost of Rs 12 billion is completed when the cost soars to Rs 52 billion. How and why did such condition arise? Don't those responsible for such mess deserve action?"

He further suggested all attending the meeting to resort to alternative measures if the contracted companies fail to deliver in time. Development needs speeding up in a sweeping manner through the change in work style.

The meeting run for four hours was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Chief Ministers, Chief Secretary and Secretaries. They dwelt on problems relating to various ministries.

On the occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Prof Dr Shivraj Adhikari, made a presentation on economic indicators, public finance management, and progress relating to social and infrastructural developments, SDGs and upgrading to the status of developing country.(RSS)
