Kathmandu, June 18: UNESCO Representative to Nepal and Head of the Office, Jaco du Toit, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, on Wednesday.
During the meeting held at Ministry, UNESCO Representative Toit learned about the Digital Nepal Framework and various bills the Ministry was forwarding.
Minister Gurung shared the information that a bill relating to social networking site was tabled in the parliament in a bid to manage the speech via social networking sites that he argued could disturb social harmony, national unity and sovereignty. Similarly, he said Nepal had adopted the policy to make people digitally literate, and foster IT development.
UNESCO Representative made commitment to collaborate with the Nepal government to realize the aims set by the Digital Nepal Framework. He also agreed on the issue that all social media users including youths were in need of right use with proper literacy.
Also attending the meeting was Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal, IT officials and others.(RSS)
