Senior Nepali Congress leader Dhundiraj Shastri passes away

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 16: Senior Nepali Congress leader and former minister Dhundiraj Shastri has passed away at the age of 90 on Monday morning.

His nephew Durga Prasad Poudel told Gorkhapatra Online that Shastri passed away at 5 AM in the course of treatment at Kathmandu Medical College, Sinamangal.

Shastri became the Minister of Labor and Industry under the cabinet ministership of Girija Prasad Koiral on the year 1991. Shastri was elected as a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Arghakhanchi in 1991.

Dhundiraj Shastri has two sons, Nabin Poudel and Rishab Poudel. Nabin is in Germany, and Rishab is in Japan, and they are on the way to Nepal. Shastri has three daughters.

Family sources said that after the arrival of Shastri's sons on Tuesday, the body of the late Shastri will be kept at the Nepali Congress central office in Lalitpur, Sanepa, for tribute, and then his last rites will be performed at Aryaghat in Pashupati.
