Patan (Lalitpur), June 13: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has stressed that the state should make necessary policies for the preservation of mother languages.

Inaugurating the second International Mother Language Conference organized by National Forum of Newar Journalists in Lalitpur today, Speaker Ghimire expressed the view that challenges have been seen in the context of mother language journalism and attention should be paid to preserve it.

"The important document to be prepared from the international conference would be useful to make the nation strong by preserving mother languages. Activities are underway to preserve the political achievements gained in recent period. Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Gorkhapatra and Public Service Broadcasting have been working to preserve 62 languages existing in the country, which is a good work", he mentioned.

The Speaker opined that the main objective of the international conference is to share information about present status of mother language journalism and its developing trend in Nepal as well as creating opportunity to know the progress made in international level.

The conference would contribute in the path of making mother language journalism more professional, inclusive and accessible in Nepal, he shared.

Remembering the 101th anniversary of commencement of mother language journalism by the first mother language journalist of Nepal, Dharmaditya Dharmacharya (Jagatman Baidya), Speaker Ghimire argued that Dharmacharya had constructed the foundation of mother language journalism.

Similarly, Chairperson of Public Service Broadcasting, Dr Mahendra Bista opined that there has been contribution in promotion of mother language journalism for long and added that it would play effective role in information and news dissemination.

Likewise, Conference Coordinator and senior Vice-Chair of the National Forum of Newar Journalists, Sunil Maharjan, said mother language journalism had remarkable contribution in every political change of the country, expressing the view that it has played significant role on social and cultural awareness.

The organization of Newar journalists was established 13 years ago. The first international conference was held in 2081. (RSS)
