Kathmandu, June 5: The Russian Language Day today is being observed by organising several programmes in different countries of the globe.
The day is being marked in Kathmandu with a programme to be hosted by the Russian Culture Centre this afternoon.
In commemoration of the birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander S. Pushkin, the United Nations has been marking the Russian Language Day on June 6 since 2010. This year too, the UN is organising several programmes to observe the day today.
According to the UN, the Russian language is among the six official languages being used in the global organisation.
The purpose of the UN Languages Days is to raise awareness of the history, culture and development of each of the official UN languages among the staff of the Organisation.(RSS)
