By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 3: Nepathya, the popular folk-rock band, performed in Pittsburgh on Saturday as part of their ongoing US musical tour.
According to a press statement issued by Nepalaya, the event management company for Nepathya, the concert, held at the Roxian Theatre, opened with their signature patriotic anthem Rato Ra Chandra Surya and prominently featured the Nepali national flag, a common sight at every Nepathya show.
However, this time, the audience was also greeted with a rare sight as the audience also hoisted the Bhutanese national flag.
Acknowledging the presence of many Bhutanese-origin Nepalis, lead singer Amrit Gurung addressed the crowd with an emotional message:
“We must not forget the past, but we must also have the courage to forgive and move forward. Our language connects Nepalis across the globe. Let this spirit of harmony always prevail. Let’s move ahead without hatred in our hearts.”
The band performed songs like Koshi Ko Pani Yo Jindagani, Bhedako Oon Jasto, Chhekyo Chhekyo, and more.
Vidya Pulami, one of the event organisers and a member of the Bhutanese Nepali community, carried both the Nepali and Bhutanese flags at the event.
“Though we were displaced, we still love Bhutan. That’s why I chose to represent both nations today,” she said.
With Pittsburgh being the fourth stop on their US tour, Nepathya will now head to Chicago, where they are scheduled to perform on June 7.
They will perform in Boston on June 11 and conclude their American tour with a final performance in North Carolina on June 14, before returning to Nepal.
