By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 30: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes to all Nepalis living in home and abroad on the occasion of the 7th National Women’s Rights Day.
In his message, President Paudel underscored the need for a collective national effort to ensure women’s rights, dignity and meaningful participation in all sectors. The7th National Women’s Rights Day falls on Friday (May 30).
He highlighted the ongoing efforts to mainstream women’s contribution to the national development process, ensure equal access to resources and opportunities and enhance their role in decision-making.
President Paudel said that despite various policy and operational efforts, Nepali women continue to face social, cultural, educational and economic barriers. He also called for urgent action against all forms of violence and discrimination.
“It is essential that all state mechanisms prioritise the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and children in educational institutions, workplaces, public spaces and within households and society,” said the President.
President Paudel also expressed his hope that the day would inspire positive changes in social norms and traditions, ensuring gender equality and building an inclusive society.
Meanwhile, in his message, Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav said that without the guarantee of women's rights, equal development of society is impossible.
"A prosperous and developed Nepal can be built only through the path of justice, equality, inclusion, and empowerment," he said.
Effective implementation of women's rights, ensuring access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and political participation, requires cooperation among the government, civil society, and all sectors, said the Vice-President.
He further expressed his hope that the day might inspire everyone to continuously contribute to ending violence against women, promoting gender equality and encouraging women's leadership in decision-making processes, thereby establishing a strong, capable, and self-reliant women’s community
The National Women's Rights Day is being marked on Friday under the theme, “Respect for Women’s Rights: Our Campaign for Self-Reliance.”
The day is observed to commemorate the passage of four special resolutions on women’s rights by the reinstated House of Representatives on May 30, 2006.
