By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 26: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa bid farewell to recently retired Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Lalmani Acharya in a ceremony held on Sunday at the Nepal Police Headquarters.
Addressing the farewell ceremony, IGP Thapa praised AIGP Acharya for fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the organisation with a high level of professionalism, dedication, loyalty and integrity.
On the occasion, IGP Thapa also presented a token of love to the retired AIGP Acharya.
In the programme, the retired AIGP Acharya shared his experiences and reflections from his years of service.
AIGP Acharya had joined the Nepal Police on November 13, 1995, as an Inspector. He retired from service on May 24 on the grounds of age.
The programme was attended by other Additional Inspector Generals of Police, Deputy Inspector Generals, and senior police officers.
In the meantime, IGP Thapa conferred an insignia of the Sub-Inspector rank on a newly promoted woman police personnel, Kunzang Chhopel Sherpa, who has successfully climbed Sagarmatha last week.
Organising a special function upon her successful ascent of the world’s highest peak on Sunday, IGP Thapa honoured her with the insignia rank, according to a news bulletin of the Police Headquarters, Naxal.
The decision of her special promotion was made during the Policy Formation Committee (PCC) meeting held on May 20 at the Nepal Police Headquarters under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Thapa.
Sherpa was granted a special promotion in recognition of her successful ascent of the highest peak in the world, Sagarmatha, which brought great prestige to the Nepal Police. Acknowledging this extraordinary achievement, the PCC approved her promotion from Assistant Sub-Inspector to Sub-Inspector.
IGP Thapa personally presented the new rank insignia to Sub-Inspector Sherpa. On the occasion, IGP Thapa praised Sherpa's exemplary courage and contribution to the organisation's prestige through her fearless conquest of Everest.
IGP Thapa further emphasised that with promotion comes increased responsibility and expectations. He urged Sherpa to perform her duties with even greater dedication and enthusiasm in the coming days.
Representing the Nepal Police, Sub-Inspector Sherpa successfully summited Mount Everest at 8:56 am on May 19. At the summit, she proudly unfurled the national flag of Nepal, the Nepal Police flag and a banner promoting the message, “Let us unite to end violence against women and children.”
