Nepal face defeat to Thailand by 78 runs

Kathmandu, May 20: Nepal faced a 78-run defeat to Thailand in the final match of the Super 3 under the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers.

In the match held today at Terdthai Cricket Ground, Thailand, Thailand set a target of 159 runs for Nepal.

In response, Nepal was all out for 80 runs, losing nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

For Nepal, Kabita Kunwar contributed the highest 24 runs. Similarly, Rajamati Airee scored an unbeaten 20 and Rubina Chhetri made 12 runs, while the other players could not score runs in double digits.

Onnicha Kamchomphu took the highest four wickets for Thailand. Similarly, Thipacha Puthawong took three wickets, and Suleporn Laomi took one wicket.

Thailand, having lost the toss and invited to bat first, scored 158 runs losing two wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Nannapat Koncharoen contributed an unbeaten 50 runs with the help of eight fours off 28 balls for Thailand. Similarly, Nataya Bhuachum scored 50 runs with five fours off 42 balls. Apisara Suwannachot made 29 runs while Nattakan Chantham remained unbeaten at 15 runs.

Rajamati Airee and Manisha Upadhyay took one wicket each for Nepal.

Nepal and Thailand have already reached the global qualifying stage of the World Cup. In the first match, both defeated the UAE to reach the global qualifiers. (RSS)
