By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 5: Film Development Board has begun making significant steps for the development of Nepali film industry by initiating several programmes and projects.

According to a press statement issued by FDB, the board has introduced its policies and projects with the aim at improving infrastructure, policies, and the overall development of the sector.

Currently, the board is running various film-related initiatives across the country.

In Kathmandu, a two-week workshop titled ‘Women Make Films’ is being held to empower female filmmakers, directors, and technicians by focusing on practical aspects of film production. The workshop is organised by Shanta Nepali Productions.

In Pokhara, the Board has launched the ‘Lights Camera Workshop,’ which aims to familiarise the new generation with the technology and practices of film production. The workshop will continue until May 8 and is organised by the Pokhara Film Workers Association.

The ‘Karnali International Film Festival’ in Rara is promoting the region’s natural and cultural diversity through film. The festival was inaugurated by  Board chairman Dinesh DC, along with director Dipashree Niraula and actor Pradeep Khadka.

Likewise, a documentary is being shot in Dolakha about the marriage traditions of the Thami community, an ethnic group with an endangered cultural heritage. This project highlights the Board’s role in preserving Nepal’s diverse cultural legacies and is being produced by the Thami Film Workers Association.

Beyond these initiatives, the Board is also working on long-term plans that include the introduction of the Film Development Act in Parliament, the construction of a National Film Studio in Banepa, the implementation of a box office system for transparency, and the development of an online service platform.

These efforts are expected to bring institutional clarity, enhance production capabilities and improve accessibility to services across the industry.

Moreover, a Children’s Film Festival is being organised in Ilam, which will take place in the third week of May. The festival, under the theme “Cinema for the Country,” aims to encourage creativity and cultural awareness among young audiences through film.
