By Bomlal Giri,Nawalpur, May 3: A flood following early morning rainfall in Nawalpur has washed away the diversion at Binayi River near Dumkibas. According to the District Police Office, the incident has disrupted traffic along the Narayangadh–Butwal section of the East-West Highway.

The flood swept away half of the diversion, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhu Nepal, the spokesperson for the District Police Office. As a result, passenger and light vehicles are being rerouted via the Hongshi Cement Gate as an alternative route, he said.

Police said that repair work on the diversion is going on.  The original bridge over the Binayi Khola collapsed on January 11 when a heavy Indian truck tried to cross it, and a temporary diversion was built. However, repeated washouts due to floods have worsened traffic management, said SP Yadav Dhakal, chief of the District Police Office.

Previously, flooding in mid-April also washed away the diversion, causing long-term traffic disruption.

In Daunne, as part of road expansion efforts, nighttime vehicle movement had already been restricted from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am, beginning from April 14 to 28. This restriction has now been extended another 15 days, until May 14, 2025.
