By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 19: Senior expatriate Nepali chefs were honoured with the Global Star Award amid a programme held in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Jointly organised by Glory Media and Newslines Media, the event celebrated the international recognition and promotion of Nepali culinary arts and culture, paying tribute to several Nepali chefs currently working abroad.
Among the chefs honoured were Gyanendra Banjara Sharma from Canada, pastry and bakery chef Human Limbu from Dubai, pastry chef Saroj Singh Thapa from Saudi Arabia, Bhavi Khanal and Kamal Thapa from Australia, Ved Prasad Adhikari and Lal Tamang from the USA, executive chef Govinda Rai and chef Arun Adhikari from Dubai, Surya Bhandari from Qatar, Umesh Tamang from the UAE, Narayan Bahadur Thapaliya from the Cayman Islands, Subash Thapa and Ajay Bajracharya from Australia and Chitra Budha, currently in Nepal and formerly based in Qatar.The awards and certificates were presented by the chief guest, former Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Khil Raj Regmi.
Special guests, including Urmila Shrestha, President of the Nepal Women’s Chamber, tourism expert Karna Shakya, President of Nepal Bar Association Bijay Kumar Mishra, President of Hotel Association Nepal and social worker, entrepreneur, and non-resident activist Rudra Sharma also joined in presenting the certificates of honour.
The event was chaired by Saroj Ojha, President of Glory Media, and coordinated by Raju Bhatt, Managing Director of Newslines Media. It featured a goodwill exchange session and a thematic discussion on “The Role of Culinary Arts and Nepali Chefs in Promoting Nepal Tourism.”
Speaking at the event, Regmi expressed that such programmes not only encourage culinary professionals but also significantly contribute to the global promotion of Nepali cuisine.
