KMC partners with Bir Hospital to fight cancer

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar.26: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has partnered with the screening campaign launched by Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel to combat breast and cervical cancer.  

As part of this collaboration, regular free screening for breast and cervical cancer will now be available at Bir Hospital. An agreement to this effect was signed between KMC and Bir Hospital in the presence of Minister Paudel and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol on Tuesday.  

Minister Paudel initiated the nationwide free screening programme throughout the months of April and March to raise awareness and enhance preventive measures against cervical cancer. He expressed his gratitude to KMC for its support, emphasising that the initiative is crucial not only for prevention but also for improving treatment services.  

“We believe that the three tiers of government should work together in the health sector rather than separately,” said Minister Paudel. “This collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City to jointly tackle breast and cervical cancer serves as an inspiring example,” he added.

Deputy Mayor Dangol echoed the sentiment, stating that the partnership would play a vital role in saving women’s lives at a time when breast and cervical cancers pose significant health challenges.  

According to Dr. Dilip Sharma, Director at Bir Hospital, KMC will provide financial assistance to cover free accommodation for patients, while Bir Hospital will manage the required medical personnel through its oncology ward.
