By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu. Mar. 20: The first meeting of the Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for the upcoming Sagarmatha Sambaad (dialogue), scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18, concluded on Wednesday.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, discussed various aspects of the event, including overall management, framework, invitations to foreign heads of state and government, participation of experts, appointment of goodwill ambassadors and collaboration with the private sector, said a press statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli urged all sectors to extend their support and participation to make the Sambaad a remarkable success. He also directed officials to ensure that all preparations are carried out flawlessly.
A secretariat has already been established at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, for the operation of the Sagarmatha Sambaad. Similarly, a Steering Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Oli, while a Management Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, with Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri as the co-chair.
The government has already extended invitations to heads of state and government from neighboring countries, including India and China, as well as leaders from various other nations, as special guests for the event.
For the first time, the government is organising such a global dialogue and planning to organise it every two years, focusing on climate change, the Himalayas and the future of human life.
Prime Minister Oli announced the programme on January 21, 2025, on the occasion of International Glacier Year 2025.
