Three stolen artifacts located in Austria

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 18: Three artifacts stolen from different places in Nepal have been located in the collection of Marsh Vargas Handley and are scheduled to be sold at the Galerie Zacke Auction, Vienna, Austria. 

According to the 'Lost Arts of Nepal' campaign, which is dedicated to the search and identification of the stolen or lost Nepali heritage, a 17th century stone sculpture of Lord Ganesh, stolen from the Bagh Bhairava Temple complex, Kiritipur, has been located in the collection of Marsha Vargas Handley. 

It is now scheduled to be sold on April 10, lot No. 31. The sculpture was previously published by Lost Arts of Nepal on  October 22, 2021, as located in the collection of Xanadu Gallery, USA. 

Another artifact, a 9th-century stone sculpture of Boddhisattva Padmapani, stolen from Bouddha Stupa (Khasti Mahachaitya), Kathmandu,  is also located in the same collection. It is scheduled to be sold at the same auction on April 11, 2025, Lot No. 297. 

Likewise, 11th/ 12th stone sculpture of Sridhara Vishnu, stolen in the early 1980s from Chyasal Hiti, Chyasal Tole Patan, is also located at the same location. It is scheduled to be sold at the auction on April 11, 2025, Lot No. 29.
