By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 18: A ‘Global Money Week – 2025’ has begun since Monday with the slogan ‘Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow’.
This is the 13th edition of Global Money Week, which is observed every year in March for a week.
On the first day of the campaign, Nepal Rastra Bank organised the National Launch Event of Global Money Week in collaboration with the Nepal Insurance Authority, the Securities Board of Nepal and the Department of Cooperatives.
Governor of NRB Maha Prasad Adhikari inaugurated the campaign amidst a function.
About 600 students studying in grades 7 to 9 in various schools in Kathmandu participated in the programme, according to a press statement of NRB.
Governor Adhikari highlighted the importance of financial literacy and expressed the view that financial services should be selected based on one's needs.
He said, "Banks and financial institutions have their own 'products'. Savings and loans have different terms and interest rates. You should only choose the product that is suitable for you."
Stating that challenges have also increased with the expansion of digital financial transactions in recent times, Governor Adhikari called for caution while using digital means for financial transactions.
In the campaign, which will run until March 23, various programmes that will help increase financial awareness will be conducted across the country in coordination with NRB.
Nepal Insurance Authority, Securities Board of Nepal, Department of Cooperative, and National Banking Institute Limited will organise separate youth-targeted financial awareness programmes.
In addition, banks and financial institutions, service providers, and remittance companies will also run targeted programmes for Global Money Week, said the NRB.
Under this campaign, various programmes have been planned to increase awareness of banking/finance, capital market, insurance, and cooperative services.
The campaign is expected to help promote financial literacy among students and expand access, as well as increase awareness about the basic aspects of financial services.
'Global Money Week' is a global campaign launched with the aim of generating awareness among young people about the importance of financial education for teenagers, said the NRB.
