By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 11: Author Balika Bantawa has brought out a women-centric novel titled 'Pyauli ' in Nepali. Literary figures Usha Sherchan, critic Bindu Sharma, poet Bimala Tumkhewa, and author Bantawa herself jointly launched the book amid an event in the capital on Saturday.
Sherchan described the theme of 'Pyauli' as compelling and heart-touching.
"Only those who experience it truly understand the pain. After experiencing pain, it's natural to cry out. This work reflects the struggles of a girl," she said. "For that reason, something that comes from the soul is truly touching."
Poet and critic Sharma commented that the novel is strong because it is based on the author's life story.
"This story is just not about the girl, it reflects the struggles of many of us," she said. "Our experiences are generally similar."
The difference between autobiography and narrative in a life-story-based novel is often very subtle, she added.
Poet Tumkhewa suggested that the book must be read with the heart, setting aside theoretical frameworks.
"The author has not hidden anything in her writing," she said. "These themes exist in all of our lives." According to her, only a few writers dare to present their sufferings in such an honest way.
Author Bantawa explained that she wrote the book as a way to express the emotions and struggles inside her.
"I am grateful to all the characters who are part of this book, as they contributed to shaping the main character. If they hadn't given me love, pain, and tension, this book might never have been shaped," she said.
The novel, published by Kalarab Dharan, tells the story of a fearless, self-respecting, and independent woman's life struggle.
The novel depicts the uphill and downhill experiences of a woman’s life. The suffering, confusion, and tension caused by relationships, love, separation, and sighs are all present. And there are the sharp and ruthless blows from male arrogance," reads the blurb of the book.
At the event organised by Sambhav Samuh, a song written by the author was also released. The song, composed by Bikram Rai, featured vocals by Sunita Thegim.
Bantawa, originally from Jhapa, has been residing in Hong Kong.
