By Arjun Kafle, Syangja, Mar.8: The Gorkhali large Machete (Khukuri) has become everyone's favorite at the first Pink City Festival that is being held at the playground of the Waling Municipality-8 of the Syangja district.
The large Khukuri made by locals has become the audience's favorite at this festival, which has been going on since March 5.
Santosh Bishwokarma, aged 45, of Raipala, Waling Municipality-14, has put up a display of handmade Khukuris and agricultural tools, but the large Khukuri is eye-catching of all.
The five-foot-10-inch Khukuri, which Bishwakarma made using his skills and put up for display, has been the favorite of everyone.
The price of 30 kilograms is determined to be Rs 111, 111.
Stating that some Nepali living abroad have purchased Khukuri while some have pre-ordered it, saying to take it towards the end of the fair.
BK has exhibited his A-40 stall near the entrance of the festival ceremony, where he has not only exhibited them but has been able to sell them as well.
BK said that he has been making tools made from steel such as axes, sickles, Khukuri, spade, knife, and other agricultural tools.
He said that it is a bit difficult to pass on the arts and skills that have been passed down from generations to the new generation.
BK said that as the current generation is going to school and leaving the country for further education, which is making it difficult to pass on traditional skills to the next generation.
He has been selling his handmade original tools from home and was able to make a good sale in the fair as well.
He said that he sells and distributes such items, he makes from home and has also been exhibiting and selling them at fairs and festivals by setting up stalls. The festival has helped in marketing and promoting the products that they produce.
"The festival, organized by the Walling Chamber of Commerce, has prioritized local skills and products," said Mani Prasad Pangeni, Vice-President of the organization.
According to Vice President Pangeni, items displayed at the stalls of the festival not only reflect the local skills here, but will also help in the promotion and marketing of the products.
Walling Chamber of Commerce has arranged stalls for local entrepreneurs for free or at a certain percentage discount.
The festival, organized by the Walling Chamber of Commerce with the slogan 'Economically and socially prosperous society, prosperous Walling', will continue until March 16.
