Commission increased on gas, no burden on consumers: Nepal Oil Corporation

Kathmandu Correspondent, Mar.5: A five-point agreement has been reached between the government and the gas industry.

In a meeting held on Tuesday in the assembly hall of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Secretary Gobinda Bahadur Karki, Managing Director of the Nepal Oil Corporation Limited Dr Chandika Prasad Bhatta officials of Nepal Oil Corporation and Nepal LP Gas Industry Association agreed on five points, including increasing gas transportation commission by Rs 12 per cylinder.

With the agreement to increase the commission, the demonstration of the gas industry has been suspended.

According to the Nepal Oil Corporation, the consumers will not be burdened by the increase in the commission of industrialists.

Manoj Kumar Thakur, spokesperson for the state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation,  informed that the consumer price of gas in the market will remain at Rs 1,910 per cylinder and the increased price to industrialists will be added to the loss in gas.

He said that regarding the adjustment of external transportation fare, internal transportation fare, operation and administrative expenses of gas industries by 12 rupees 75 paisa.

The industrialist had demanded an increase of 50 rupees per cylinder, saying that it was difficult to run the business due to the lack of an increase in gas commission for a long time.

The union had staged a protest by stopping the purchase order (PDO) for bringing gas from India since last Sunday, demanding 19 points, including an increase in overhead and profit amount.

Consumers could not get gas easily in the market due to the protest announced by the industrialists. 

President of the Gas Dealer Federation Nepal Gyaneshwar Aryal said that it looks like there is a shortage of gas in the market, as people are over-consuming it in apprehension of gas shortage in the market. 

Lately, consumers had to wait for a long time to get gas.
