Kathmandu, Feb 18: The Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) has announced 12 awardees for various prizes to be given on its 64th anniversary.
The prizes will be awarded during a formal programme to be held on Wednesday at the RSS Central Office, Bhadrakali Plaza.
A meeting of the RSS Board of Directors selected Lalitpur district correspondent Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Kailali district correspondent Tilak Raj Ojha and Sunsari district correspondent Sangita Rai as the outstanding district correspondents. The three will be provided with Rs 20,000 each and a letter of appreciation.
Similarly, Jhapa district correspondent Chandrakala Bhandari and Editor Tikaram Sunar have been named the outstanding feature writers of the year. They will each receive Rs 10,000.
Bhandari's feature on the suicide trend in the country and Sunar's feature about violence in the entertainment sector were selected as the best feature stories.
The RSS Board of Directors also decided to award Editor of the RSS International News Editing Section Dilip Prasad Sharma and Senior Assistant of the RSS Nepali News Editing Section Chhabilal Mal for the best editing. They will each receive Rs 10,000 and a letter of appreciation.
Similarly, Narayan Prasad Adhikari of the RSS Bharatpur Office and Kalika Khadka of the RSS Central Office will be awarded in the category of the best news reporting. Adhikari and Khadka will each receive a purse of Rs 10,000 and a letter of appreciation.
Hariram Bhetawal was picked for the best photojournalism prize. Bhetwal will receive Rs 20,000 in cash and a letter of appreciation.
Office Assistants Rajinan Sah of the RSS Central Office and Surya Prasad Baral of the RSS Madhes Province Office, Janakpur, will be awarded as the best officials. They will each receive a purse of Rs 10,000 and a letter of appreciation.
The names of the recipients were recommended by a committee led by Deputy General Manager Somnath Lamichhane and were endorsed by the RSS Board of Directors today.(RSS)
