Morang, Jan 30: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that the current government will not topple.
At a programme on 'Constitution Amendment and Challenges' in Biratnagar on Thursday organized by Nepal Democratic Lawyers' Association, Dr Koirala said the current government will last until the fulfillment of objectives to develop a corruption-free society by maintaining economic development and good-governance, and amending the constitution.
He also suggested that ownership over the constitution will broaden if the constitution amendment is based on consensus after holding talks with the oppositions.
Dr Koirala viewed that political stability would be maintained and the issues of electoral system would be addressed if inclusion was considered in the first-past-the-post system.
Former chief ministers of Koshi Province Uddhab Thapa and Kedar Karki said constitution should be amended after interacting with the people and added that it was our common responsibility to implement the federalism, which was brought after a massive sacrifice of the citizens.
NC leader Dr Dila Sangraula stated that amendment to the constitution was needed to bring about economic prosperity and political stability in the country.
Senior advocate Dr Bhimarjun Acharya also viewed the need for constitution's amendment in terms of its contents, conceptual error and language.(RSS)
